The Application Process
Prospective agents start their journey with Golden Memorial by submitting their application and expressing interest in joining our team. If licensed, the recruit will be connected to a local manager to be contracted and trained. If not licensed, our in-house recruiter will help you step by step with obtaining your life insurance license.
The Onboarding Process
Step One: Taking the Online Course
The first step for all new agents is to complete an online course. While the specific requirements vary by state, we always recommend that agents take the course to prepare you to pass the state licensing exam the first time. For example, in California, agents must complete a 32-hour course. In Arizona, you are not required to take an online course, however, we encourage agents to still take the course to better understand the knowledge you will need to obtain as a life insurance agent.
Step Two: Taking the State Exam
Once prospective agents take the online course, they must pass their state exam. The course prepares you to pass the exam the first time around. In the case you do not pass, you are able to retake the exam, however, you will have to pay to retake the exam.
Step Three: Fingerprinting
Once the potential agent passes the exam, they will need to be fingerprinted. This can be done at the exam site once you receive your results. If they do not offer fingerprinting at the testing center, you may go to your local livescan facility. This step is essential for the background check during the application process.
Step Four: Applying for Life Insurance License
This is the final step in the licensing process. The state will ensure you have met the requirements in obtaining your life insurance license. Depending on the state, it takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to receive your license number.
Step Five: Contracting and Training with Top Agents
Once you receive your license #, new agents are connected with a local manager based on their state and location. New agents will receive hands-on, face to face training and shadowing.
Overall, the onboarding process can take a few weeks. Prospective agents are guided through every step of the way with our dedicated in-house recruiter. Although there is a cost to obtaining your life insurance license, you will make back what you put into the process by selling one application.
New Agent Support and Training
Our commitment to training sets us apart from our competitors. Here’s how we support our new agents:
Meeting with Manager
Agents meet with their manager of the location they’re placed at to discuss the application, lead program, commission structure, and benefits. We ensure that agents feel comfortable and confident in their abilities before pursuing their own leads.
Training Sessions
During training sessions, we cover how the insurance application process works, including how to write an effective application for clients. Some managers provide scripts to guide agents during client interactions for their first few appointments.
Shadowing the Manager
New agents shadow their manager during client presentations. We equip agents with effective sales strategies and introduce them to our lead generation program. One thing we pride ourselves on is our training process. Even when the agent feels confident enough to take their own leads, the manager is always available if an agent needs to call or text with any questions they have.
